Acquisition of 12%
interest in Datacentrix - May 2001
Treacle's partners are pleased to announce that the Treacle
Fund has acquired an interest of 12% in Datacentrix Limited
for a consideration of R18 million. Datacentrix is listed in
the Information Technology sector of the JSE. The company
provides South African medium and large companies and
parastatals with information technology hardware, software,
infrastructure and services.
It is Treacle's view that a few quality smaller cap JSE shares
are now offering good investment value. We are not saying that
we have picked the bottom of the market but price earnings to
expected growth ratios are currently as attractive as after
the stock market crash in 1987.
Datacentrix's turnover for the past year amounted to R350
million. Its clients include South African Breweries, Genfood,
Iscor, Statistics South Africa, City Council of Pretoria,
Telkom, Medihelp, Bankmed, British American Tobacco Company
and Toyota.
We are really excited about the business
prospects going forward as the company has an excellent
management team in Gerhard Uys and Klaas Lammers with a ten
year track record of consistent profit growth in this industry
(i.e. guys who can hit the "sweet spot").
Members of the Treacle team will join the Board of Datacentrix
shortly. We believe that we can add value to Datacentrix by
acting as a strategic soundboard for management and to assist
the company (from a corporate finance point of view) in its
strategy of cautiously making the right acquisitions.
